Why Custom?

Why would clients prefer custom? This seems to be a question that people often ask, considering the cost difference of a custom made piece from a mass produced item in a store's showcase. This is a question that only you as a client can answer. Do you value the artistry and appreciate the uniqueness of a one of a kind piece? Although there many beautiful pieces that are readily available there's nothing that can compare to creating your very own custom designed piece.

As the jewellery shoppers become more and more price oriented, the jewellery retailers are looking into products that will satisfy their clients. Less expensive products that still look impressive, but all these can come with a compromise. I've worked with clients that bought jewellery from their trips overseas or from other local jewellers and they always are so proud of the good deals they got. Unknowingly they bought something that the setting are just too light or so poorly made. They end up coming to visit us to have it repaired so soon after owning it and it ends up being a design consultation to reset their gems. A good deal sometimes are not so good a deal if there's too much compromise just to deliver a price that can be irresistable. More and more retailers end up looking for less expensive alternative suppliers that create "unique" pieces to be ahead of the competition both on the design and the pricing. Here at McGrath Diamonds we are very selective on the pieces we carry in store, we make sure these products are something we can service and something that our clients will enjoy for years to come. Despite the high quality products we have in our showcases a lot of our clients still prefer doing something really truly unique. I have clients that just don't even look at our stock items and just go straight to my sketch pad. I also have clients that soon realize that a custom designed piece would suit them better.

Custom designing a piece of jewellery means that you as my client have full control. You decide on the look of the ring and the process to create it, the quality of the gems and the experience in creating your piece is so rewarding. A few of my clients keep coming back for more pieces to create because they know they will be fully satisfied in their piece and will enjoy it for years to come. Your own "wearable fine art" jewellery will last for years to come because we never compromise anything to create it. My designs have been conceived with my vision and the unrivalled craftsmanship of my goldsmiths. All of these pieces need multiple consultations with the client, to view initial sketches, to examine the wax carving and to enjoy the finished product. The creation of the piece from the production process is not always easy. Endless phone calls, early morning meetings with the goldsmith guarantee to ensure that each piece will be what I envisioned with no compromise in the fit and finish. What the client saw on paper will always be exceeded by the finish product.

So going back to the question "Why Custom?"... simple, it gives you a piece that truly reflects your personality. It's a piece that would endure years and years of ownership, since there's no trend that dictates the look, your piece would always look amazing for years to come. The unrivalled quality of your piece will certainly be considered an heirloom piece.
